Secure your account in two clicks: why MFA (multi-factor authentication) is a smart move

You sign in, enter your password... and you're in. Simple, right? But also vulnerable. Because if your password falls into the wrong hands, it’s like leaving the door wide open. That’s why we’ll soon switch to MFA as the default at Billit. This extra layer of protection keeps your data safe from unwanted access.

Blog MFA

The option has been available in Billit for a while, but soon we’ll ask everyone to activate MFA. Not to complicate matters, but to better protect your account.

In this blog, we briefly explain what MFA is, why it is important and what it means for you as an entrepreneur.

What is MFA?

MFA stands for multi-factor authentication, which means that you confirm your identity in two steps instead of one. That is why it is sometimes referred to as two-step verification. Think of your banking app: you first sign in and then confirm via your mobile phone or card reader.

At Billit, it works just as easily. In addition to your password, you enter a code generated by an authenticator app on your smartphone. This makes it much more difficult for cybercriminals to gain access, even if they manage to get hold of your password.

Would you like to know how to enable MFA yourself? You can find step-by-step instructions on our MFA help page.

Why is MFA important?

As an entrepreneur, you trust Billit with sensitive data every day: customer information, financial details, invoices… Naturally, you want that data to be as secure as possible. MFA adds a strong additional layer of security to protect that data.

With MFA:

  • a stolen password alone won’t be enough to sign in
  • your administration stays secure, even if you lose your laptop
  • you meet stricter data protection requirements (like GDPR compliance)

What are the pros and cons?

There are plenty of pros:

  • You add a solid extra layer of security to your account.
  • Your data is better protected against phishing and hackers.
  • Your account stays secure, even if your password gets compromised.

And the disadvantages?

  • One extra step when signing in: you'll need your smartphone to enter the code from your authenticator app.

It might take a bit of getting used to at first, but soon it becomes second nature. And those few extra seconds? They give you a lot more peace of mind.

What does this mean for you?

Soon, MFA will be required when signing in to Billit. Here’s what that means:

  • Already using MFA? Then nothing changes for you.
  • Not using MFA yet? We recommend activating it now. That way, your account is already properly protected, so you won’t have to do anything extra later. You can easily set up MFA in your profile settings.

Our help pages provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

Security without the hassle, just as you expect from Billit

At Billit, we believe that admin shouldn’t give you headaches. That's why security is a natural part of how we work. With MFA, you can be sure your data is only accessible to you, so you can keep running your business with peace of mind.
